First off, our newest project which aims to broadcast to the world all ideas that are good, clean and fair just had its first get together party in the urban farm of Roberta’s Restaurant in Bushwick, Brooklyn. When Heritage Foods USA first formed, it was a mail order business to home chefs like you. In 2005 a chef by the name of Mark Ladner and his partners Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich encouraged Heritage Foods to begin a wholesale business to supply their restaurants like Lupa and Del Posto, which had not yet open. Today, thanks to their support, we have grown to process over 200 pigs each week! And this past week Del Posto became the first Italian restaurant to receive four stars by the New York Times since 1974! An important new book edited by Daniel Imhoff is about to hit bookstores. CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations): The Tragedy of Industrial Animal Factories contains 30 essays by today’s leading thinkers on one of the most important environmental and ethical issues of our time. Contributors include Michael Pollan, Wendell Berry, Fred Kirschenmann, Anna Lappé, Matthew Scully, Eric Schlosser, Andrew Kimbrell, and Wenonah Hauter.
